The present paper seeks to explore the relationship between the Agreements concluded under the framework of the World Trade Organization (WTO), particularly the Agreement on Agriculture, and the obligation of the Members of the WTO to respect the human right to adequate food to which they have committed themselves by ratifying the International Covenant on Economic Social and Cultural Rights. The author is the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food. This paper is based on his mission to the WTO and it constitutes an elaboration of the report
he prepared on the basis of that mission for the UN Human Rights Council.
