Ecuador’s consumption of wheat, corn, and rice are anticipated to increase in line with population growth. At FAS Quito we find Ecuador dependent on imported wheat, mainly from Canada and the United States. Domestic production of wheat, corn, and rice are being actively promoted by the government in order to lessen reliance on costly dollar denominated imports.
