Mexico notified the World Organization for Animal Health of its positive findings for porcine epidemic diarrhea virus on May 21, 2014. The disease remains of significant animal health and economic concern but only a limited number of total positive cases were diagnosed in the country while another disease seems to be affecting the pig crop, too. Domestic pork cut prices have been climbing steadily prior to and since the diagnosed outbreak in August 2013.
