SODIUM HYDROGEN SULFATE
Prepared at the 71st JECFA (2009), published in FAO JECFA Monographs 7 (2009), superseding specifications prepared at the 68th JECFA (2007) and published in FAO JECFA Monographs 4 (2007). An ADI “not specified’ was established at the 71st JECFA (2009).
SYNONYMS Sodium acid sulfate; nitre cake; sodium bisulfate; sulfuric acid, monosodium salt; INS no. 514(ii)
DEFINITION Sodium chloride and sulfuric acid are combined at elevated temperatures to produce molten sodium hydrogen sulfate. The molten sodium hydrogen sulfate is sprayed and cooled to form a solid product with uniform particle size.
