DEFINITION A mixture of calcium salts of stearoyl lactylic acids and minor proportions of other salts of related acids, formed by the esterification of commercial stearic acid with lactic acid and neutralized to the calcium salts; may contain unneutralized palmitoyl and stearoyl lactylic acid, free fatty acids (principally palmitic and stearic acid), free lactic acid and salts of fatty acid esters of lactic and polymerized lactic acid.
