Report Highlights:
In 2011, retail sales of cheese reached a recorded to $333 million, which was a 15 percent increase from 2010. The United States was the largest dairy exporting country with 43 percent market share, followed by New Zealand with 27 percent and the , EU with 14 percent. FTAs are expected to expand market share for cheese and non-fat dry milk for the United States and the EU at the expense of New Zealand and Australia. A wellbeing trend is supporting a new and growing market segment of ‘super premium’ milk including organic milk, milk from grass fed cows, and milk with added nutritional
supplements, and commands prices 3 times higher than regular milk. Despite a shortage of fluid milk resulting a FMD outbreak, Korea’s per capita consumption of dairy products grew by 1.4 percent to 73.2 kg, in 2011.
