According to the Russian Center of Fish Monitoring at the Federal Fishery Agency (Rosrybolovstvo), Russia’s wild catch in 2013 was relatively stable at 4.15 MMT, compared to 4.11 MMT in 2012. However, despite overall production, there were significant shifts by species. Cod and herringproduction, for example, as up 54 percent and 60 percent respectively, while salmon production was down 20 percent. Trade in wild sturgeon or black caviar caught from wild sturgeon continues to be banned in Russia. As a result, projects are underway to increase the amount of farmed sturgeon and caviar.
