A. Apparatus
(a) Mortar and pestle.—Deep glass mortar ca 10 cm id with well-defined lip.
(b) Photoelectric colorimeter.—Calibrate for chlorophyll, using plant extract as in C and light filters with maximum T near 660 nm. (Combination of Kopp Glass Works filters K2408 and K3965 is suitable.)
(c) Wash bottles.—Type fitted with rubber bulb, permitting operation with one hand.
(d) High-speed blender.—Waring Blendor, or equivalent.
B. Reagents
(a) Acetone.—(1) Undiluted acetone and (2) 85% aqueous solution by volume. Commercial acetone, technical grade, is satisfactory.
(b) Quartz sand.—Acid-washed and dried.
