Argentina Citrus Semi-annual Report 2013
Report Highlights:
Marketing Year (MY) 2012/2013 lemon production is forecast to decrease 1.3 MMT due to a drought during the summer of 2013 while exports remain stable and domestic consumption drops to 65,000 MT. Orange production is expected to increase to 400,000 MT and exports are forecast to decrease
significantly to 20,000 MT, compared to 85,000 MT in MY 2011/2012, due to strong competition from South Africa and smaller production than the previous year. Orange consumption is also up 300,000 MT. Tangerine production is expected to increase to 230,000 MT and exports are expected to rebound to 80,000 MT as a result of larger production and strong international demand. Consumption is projected to remain unchanged at 120,000 MT. Grapefruit production is estimated to remain stable at 80,000 MT while exports drop to 2,000 MT and consumption drops to 45,000 MT as more fruit will be devoted for processing and demand shrinks both domestically and internationally.
