(a) From specific gravity of dealcoholized product.—Transfer residue from alcohol determination, 935.19(b) (see 26.2.03), to original pycnometer with H2O, dilute to mark with H2O at 15.56°C, and mix. Adjust temperature of pycnometer and contents to 20°C; adjust meniscus to mark, using capillary tube or narrow strips of filter paper to remove any excess liquid while in 20°Cbath. Weigh, and calculate specific gravity of liquid. From 941.17A (see A.1.05) determine% dry substance and corresponding specific gravity at 20°/4°C. Specific gravity at 20°/4°C´%dry substance = total solids (g/100mL).
