CONSUMPTION DEMOGRAPHICS
According to the United States Department of Commerce and the National Marine Fisheries Service, per capita consumption of fish and shellfish was 15.8 lbs in 2009, of which fresh and frozen finfish accounted for 6.2 lbs.
Households with an income of over US$70,000 consumed the highest amount of finfish in 2010, representing 33% of total finfish consumers. Households with incomes in the range of US$20,000 to US$39,999 were the second largest consumers of finfish.
Two-member households represented 34% of finfish consumers in the United States (U.S.).
Finfish products were most popular amongst homemakers1 aged 45 to 54, and least popular amongst homemakers aged less than 25 years.
Nearly 60% of finfish consumers were employed, over half of whom were employed full time.
Of the Americans that reported consuming finfish, 44% had a college education, 28% had some college experience, and 23% had a high school degree as their highest level of education.
Over 75% of American finfish consumers were white/non-Hispanic.
