Milk and Milk Alternatives in USA 2012 Report
CONSUMPTION DEMOGRAPHICS
According to the United States Milk Processor Education Program (U.S. MilkPEP), "milk consumption at home represents close to 70% of all domestic milk consumption, with 2.7 billion gallons of milk being consumed at breakfast alone."
The following report is a discussion of fluid milk (plain or flavoured); condensed or evaporated milk; egg nog; rice, almond, flax and coconut milk; hot chocolate; milk drinks—mixtures or imitation shakes; and all other milk drinks or substitutes.
Please note that labelling regulations between Canada and the U.S. differ significantly. In Canada, use of the word 'milk' must refer to cow's milk; milk from other mammals must be clearly specified, e.g., 'goat's milk,' while in the U.S., the word ‘milk' can also be used to refer to non-mammary beverages, such as 'soy milk.'
