Rolls/Buns, Bagels and English Muffins-AMERICAN EATING TRENDS REPORT 2012
CONSUMPTION DEMOGRAPHICS
According to Euromonitor Internationals "Baked Goods in the U.S." report (2011), U.S. retail sales of rolls/buns increased by 2.7% per year over the 2006 to 2010 period (from US$2.3 billion to US$2.6 billion), while bagel sales rose from US$1 billion to US$1.1 billion over the same period. While sales of buns/rolls weakened in 2011 (down 1.2%), sales of bagels are expected to continue to grow (up 8% in 2011)1. English muffin sales have remained relatively stable since 2006, but are expected to fall 2.2% in 2011. Increased options for breakfast sandwiches, such as bagels and biscuits consumed in foodservice outlets and at home, may be partly responsible. National brands and private label have also begun to provide more nutritious products (wholegrain, seeded products, portion-controlled (mini) or thin-sliced products).
